Can I book a hotel room using my Dad's credit card but he won't be there during check-in?

I'm going on a holiday but I don't have a credit card and my Dad has offered to use his. The thing is, he won't be following me on the holiday so I'll have to check-in without his credit card with me.

We're booking through Expedia so the hotel fees will have been paid for already. Is this OK?

Best Answer:

WRG: Most hotels will require either a credit card at check-in or a cash deposit for incidental expenses even if the room is pre-paid.

I suggest you call the specific hotel about their policy.

WRG:
If nobody checking in meets the minimum age requirement for the room, no, you definitely cannot.
If you meet the age, they need the card and the holder of the card to release the room to you.
Expedia is more difficult than direct booking in this. Your dad, Expedia, and the hotel are all involved.
They need to approve it in advance, and the room almost always requires a credit card at check in, or cash, as an incidentals and damage deposit.
BigBadSteve:
Take a photocopy of the front (only) of his credit card with you, otherwise you might have some problems you don't want. Also be sure you have enough cash to cover any extras.

This is a question to ask the actual hotel at which you will be staying. Each chain has its own policies about this. It happens often enough that most chains have a process for handling this type of a situation. You just need to talk to them.
Who:
they havent been "paid for already" – they are paid for when you leave (cos only then will they know how much you have spent there)

all you dad has done is reserve a room and could get charged for the room if you dont turn up

No hotel is gonna let you in without YOU having a credit card and taking a record of it when you arrrive

When you leave they will charge THAT card – not your dads

(cos THEY will have no idea if you have any right to give the card number or if its connected to you at all
The number may be a valid number but if it aint been stolen it wont have been blocked
You could have just picked up the number and given it to them..You then leave leaving the real owner of the card to pick up your bill

No good your dad ringing- how do they know your dad is the real owner and not your accomplice?

Donald B:
They may require that you give them a cash security deposit. Even when the room is paid for they want a credit card in case you damage the room.
Spock (rhp):
email the target hotel and ask in advance. since they like bookings, they'll probably be ok with it
babyboomer1001:
Call the hotel and talk to them about it. If you do not, I doubt they will allow you to stay there. You also have to be at least 21 to stay at most hotels.
tro:
the hotel might not accept his card without him, you would not be wise to go that far and be rejected
