Health insurance does not cover emergency medical care?

I was rushed to the ER by ambulance for a serious injury to my arm about a month ago. My insurance – Blue Cross Blue Shield EPO – claims that they do not cover any emergency bills I am very confused because I thought the point of health insurance was for emergency medical situations? Has anyone heard of

I had Blue Cross EPO and got rid of it after only one year. During the year I had them, I had an emergency & had to have surgery. I didn't go to an emergency room, but I went to an Urgent care that I had to pay for. I was sent bills from various Drs. who I wasn't able to choose who were around the operating table. I turned this in the State health commissioner & the bills were then covered by Blue Cross. As bad as Blue Cross was, especially the EPO, I guess I'm not surprised they won't cover an emergency room visit. What good is this insurance then if they won't cover anything for an emergency room visit. This is why I got rid of them. I have a PPO now, but it's easy for one to think they have a better insurance until you need to use them. None of these insurances are really any good. Many people live in a delusion thinking they're good until they need to use them.

Health insurances are such scams. Amazing. So in Canada we have universal health care. A lot better, but then it is a "social" thing, a dirty word in the US and very close to communism…
Amy:
I just got offered a plan at my new job that doesn't cover emergency service. I thought it was ridiculous too.

Unfortunately, since you aren't covered you do need to pay. Call the hospital and ask whether it would reduce your bill to list you as uninsured.

Judy:
Won't cover it 100%, but should cover SOME of it unless someone else like workers comp is covering it
Bob:
They may not COVER ambulance costs, but actual care at the ER they must cover
Torrie:
Wow

More to this story…were you injured while at work or in a vehicle? If either, then they would not pay.
