How will foreign money work?

Like, if I'm from the U.S and I go to somewhere else, will my money be accepted or will i have to convert the money?

when the value of dollar was high? everyone would take dollars… now no countries that shall take dollar… besides you would get a real cheap exchange now… wherever you are going convert your dollars to the country's money…

Bianca:
'some' places shall take us money……
most places shall not………

and the ones that shall take it, shall give you such a poor exchange rate that you would be foolish to spend it directly… any change shall also be in local currency (after all, they don't keep usd or any other currency on hand in case someone comes in with foreign money)…

simplest way is pay with your foreign credit / debit card
pay in local money, and the card company shall do the exchange (at a very good rate usually – often better than cash machines)

and finally, there are atm's and you can pull cash from them (though expect a 2-3% fee for doing that, with a minimum equiv to about a 100 usd or so…… so always pull 200-300 uss in local money if you pull cash)…

Jeanne:
most of the cities of the world accept us dollars……………
tro:
when you get to the foreign country you will exchange your US money for their currency if you want to do anything there
Judy:
Depends on where. Some sellers in other countries take US dollars, but mostly you'd have t convert the money
spinesign:
But dont take travelers checks!!

My mom used to, then I tried recently, and nobody accepted them.

Daniel:
Your USD currency would work most places; however, at some countries, the local retailers may give you lower of a currency exchange rate for their benefit/inconvenience.

Other countries, retailers must have their local currency.

Be an Angel:
If you use a debit card overseas the ATM will automatically convert $ to local currency and you will get foreign money out of the ATM. different cards have differnt fees though, so if you have a few cards look them up online
rick29148:
American money is USUALLY accepted in major cities, but you may end-up WAY over-paying.
