I have just paid off a company who helped me get a truck and tools and I m deciding to go my own way.
I want to be my own independent contractor. I have everything I need to be a carpenter, painter, anything. I also have a lot of experience and potential.
But not a single job offered to me.

How do you go and put yourself out there?
I was thinking creatively, maybe going door to door, offering my handyman services. or maybe like doing something specific like putting in doggy doors in walls, or some other creative job to make money.
Im not trying to be rich, I just want to make it by but I haven t gotten any guidance from anyone in what to do.
Does anyone have any ideas

Use Craigslist online to post your services. Also, you can try AngiesList.com and HomeAdvisor.com. Word of mount is important, so ask those you do work for to provide a testimonial, and build a free website at weekly.com or wix.com to present your business to the world. Put up flyers or your business card anywhere you can like grocery stores or gas stations. You can also look at doing some niche things like pressure washing. Door to door is fine, but time consuming. Check out TaskRabbit.com as well. You can also give flyers or cards out to Realtors … just drop them off at local Realtor offices, or Property Management companies which may need your help, and look for condo associations … they are always looking for people to do odd jobs.
AlCapone:
Flyers, business cards, advertise in local town magazines and small weekly newspapers, have a simple web site that describes your services and contact info, advertise on neighborhood community web sites, tell your friends and family to tell their friends and family. Some Home Depot and Lowes stores and some supermarkets, and Ace hardware stores have bulletin boards where you can post your flyer or business card,

like anyone else, you advertise, you can make up flyers and put them on the windshields of cars in parking lots(you might have to get permission or check local laws about this)
you could park your truck with a big sign on it, for hire, at the local big box stores(Home Depot and Lowe's)
in some states you may need a contractor's licence to present yourself to the public this way and that might be a problem if you don't have one with people who might want you to work for them
Devoreal:
First create a webpage. People tend to not trust new companies that do not have a webpage. It is like having a business address instead of a post office box. Solid base=trust.

There are people on FGiverr who can do it for you if you can't…and there are other on line services…(Square? Godaddy?) that will do the whole thing for cheap.

Make sure that if you go into business for yourself get your business insured! Then advertise by leaving your business card on area cork boards at places like grocery stores, restaurants, and gas stations. Make a Facebook profile for your business and promote yourself through your friends and post a free ad on Craigslist to help get your name out there. Good luck!
