I was robbed at a Best Buy today….?

I purchased a mac for $2,550, and on the way out (still in the store), these two tall big dudes grabbed it from me, and also took 2 ps4's (from the store), and ran out. The guy shoved me and did have some contact with my face. I actually work at the store, (and was off the clock) but was able to check and it

I purchased a mac for $2,550, and on the way out (still in the store), these two tall big dudes grabbed it from me, and also took 2 ps4's (from the store), and ran out. The guy shoved me and did have some contact with my face. I actually work at the store, (and was off the clock) but was able to check and it was all on video. I called the cops, and filed a report, but they said it's going to be hard to get the mac back. I called my debit card company and visa and they said im screwed since its a debit card, and doesn't have any purchase protection.

What I do have is renters insurance from college which covers theft from anywhere in the world with a police report and proper evidence (which I have).

My question:

Will my renters insurance cover it even tho I purchased it minutes before? (renters insurance said as long the insured is in possession of the item)

OR:

should I call best buy corporate and have them send me a Mac for free? I was a paying customer and was robbed in the store. Do they have some insurance that would cover that or is the best bet to just go through renters insurance and get ready to have 30 days of back and fourth

Thanks!

First = start notifying all your friends and run around the neighborhood screaming = DO NOT USE A DEBIT CARD FOR ANYTHING BUT SMALL BASIC PURCHASES!
– I don't understand how debit cards are so popular, when, as you found out, when they money is gone, the money is gone.

Then contact the lost prevention person or mgr – find out how they would handle this is you weren't an employee. I don't think Best Buy would take responsibility, but they may out of a courtesy. What did Best Buy do that would make them liable for this?

Finally, contact your renters insurance because they should be able to reimburse you since you have the police report and supporting documentation.

Renter's insurance does not apply to robberies outside of where you live and if you were to file a claim, that would be fraud and, the insurance company does not pay without first thoroughly investigating. Renter's insurance would only apply to thefts from your residence after a burglary. I am not sure you can do anything. On your way out the door of BB, it looks like you are out of luck, unless they can catch the thieves. Ask your employer about the video that may have shown who they are. Maybe they can be found by their faces and if they are found, you can sue them if the Mac is not recovered.

bad thing to use your debit card with no coverage, not sure your renter's insurance will work but certainly worthy trying especially when you have the police report
and Best Buy is no way responsible for the safety of your purchases when they are stolen outside their doors

I doubt corporate will cover the computer, but you can try. Your renters insurance covers you the minute you buy something. The insurance company will need your receipt and a copy of the police report. Call them and put in the claim. They will cover the computer minus your deductible.
Insurance Pickle.com:
You didn't make it out of the store. Take your receipt to the counter and get a computer. That's kinda like picking up a carton of eggs, dropping them and swapping them out for non-dropped eggs.

Please not even a good troll…if you were in a best buy and got robbed…cmon..your not even trying hard here..cause you could sue best buy

I would call corporate.. however, they may think you planned this so be ready with the video, police report etc.
