Is the old company still responsible for their portion even if I don t go thru them anymore since I was covered thru them on the date of service?

If it was recently, yes. Not having the insurance anymore makes no difference. However, there is a time limit. If more than a certain amount of time (maybe a year) after you got the service, then it's too late. But this would be true even if you did not switch.
lucy:
Most health insurance will pay bills either up to 6 months or 1 year from the time of the incident.

So, submit the bill to the insurance you had when you twisted your ankle.

If it was December 2016…yeah. If it was December 2014…then not so much. In other words, whatever coverage you had when it happened, but there is a time limit.
