Income Restriction Limits on Apartments?

We re a family of 4. No assisted housing. My husband is the only one working and we re looking into an apartment..but the ones we like say they re "income restricted"what exactly does that mean?? Do you have to be on Section 8 to live there? Or does it mean we have to be in the apartments annual income

DVigil88: It means that there is a maximum annual income depending on family size. If you make more than the max, you do not qualify.

Those places are not necessarily Section 8. They get subsidies and or tax breaks from the federal gov't.

It means they are low income based apartments.

Income restricted is low income housing. There is a maximum you can make & live there and the rents are kept lower than average. NO you do not have to be on section 8 but they accept it.

in my state there are upper and lower income limits. for example, you need to be between 20k-24k/year for low income and 30k-34k for moderate (i don't know the actual numbers, but it is very restrictive limits that leave a lot of people out.
