Scared to get fired if I call off sick again?

I get sick often. I don't mean "sick" as in need personal days or common cold. I mean hospital bed ridden sick. I missed eight days last month because I was in the hospital and two days a month before because I was in the hospital. I have always provided a note and number from the hospital and they

I missed eight days last month because I was in the hospital and two days a month before because I was in the hospital. I have always provided a note and number from the hospital and they have never gotten mad but I can tell they're irritated. I'm 17 if it matters. and im going to a doctor today because I feel like my illness is coming back once again and am scared I might have to miss work again. Can I get fired?
It sucks, because my parents are spending so much out of pocket money the insurance won't pay for on medical bills and I need this job or else I won't be able to afford college.

Lol every single one of these answers has a thumbs down, and no doubt that's the original poster not hearing the answers she wanted,

But sorry sweetie it's the truth. It's not your fault you're sick, but it's not our employee's fault either. They need staff they can rely on and know will keep to there shift. They may allow odd few days here and there, but weeks at a time, they won't stand that for long.

Just concentrate on getting yourself better and to the route of the problem, then look at getting a job, one YOU will be arriving at once you've got yourself better. 🙂

In the US, you are employed "at will" meaning they can fire you for any or no reason. If you are that ill, you need to concentrate on finding the cause and treating it. They may well fire you. It puts a lot of pressure on the rest of the staff if someone calls off often. They will find someone who is more reliable.

It's possible you could be fired. You may or may not be subject to the family medical leave act.

Excerpted from the site below:

"To qualify for the FMLA mandate, a worker must be employed by a business with 50 or more employees within a 75-mile radius of his or her worksite, or a public agency, including schools and state, local, and federal employers (the 50-employee threshold does not apply to public agency employees and local educational agencies). He or she must also have worked for that employer for at least 12 months (not necessarily consecutive) and 1,250 hours within the last 12 months. (There are special hours rules for certain airline employees.[15])"

"to recover from a worker’s own serious illness;"

Meet those requirements? They can't fire you.

Or talk to your doctor about being classified, "disabled."

Bob:
Yes you can get fired for excessive absences
Randy:
You can't get fired for medical emergencies your life is more important than a job you can sue your job if they do
Ann:
what are your options ? if you are in the hospital then you can't go in, so you have to call. Truth is an employer needs to have the job done and they need someone dependable, although it is through no fault of yours, they can let you go
Judy:
sorry, but yes you can. They need employees they can depend on. Not your fault you're sick, but not theirs either.
Beverly S:
Yes they can fire you.
Fireball:
