Was I wrongfully fired?

I was a cahsier at walmart. anyways some 17 year old kid used a credit card and i asked him for id and it didn't match the name on the credit card. he says it was his moms but i bet he stole it honestly. his mom apparently later came into the store and told my manager and when i came to work today i was fired

His mother was upset that i "put her son on the spot"

I think you were but it doesn't matter because LEGALLY (and that's all that counts) they can fire you without any reason. The only protections under the law is being dismissed due to your race, religion, age or gender. Some states have laws protecting sexual orientation. Even then, people have a hard time proving discrimination in a court of law.

Did you process the credit card? Because if you did, you shouldn't have unless your supervisor authorized you to. If you did, I would have fired you too.

You know, if you liked working there otherwise why don't you talk to whoever does the hiring and firing and ask them to reconsider because you are inexperienced and learning. A word of advice, in a situation such as this if it were me and I didn't know store policy, I would have asked my supervisor for advice.

In America, EVERY state is 'at-will'…..meaning an employer can let an employee go for NO reason and an employee can quit a job for NO reason.

You allowed a fraudulent purchase to happen and didn't do anything about it. Of course you were fired. He was not his mother, and his mother clearly didn't approve of the use.

You asked for an ID? You must be racist! LOL. You are suppressing sales to minorities.

You did the right thing. Get a lawyer and send them a letter threatening a law suit.
