Why did they take so much from my pay check?

I get every two week..8 $ an hr . idk if my age matters but I m 17 and this is my first job.I work at sea world .. I work 66.5 he s this two weeks. And I got paid 287.67
I did my math 66.5×8= and its 523$ . when I get paid they take like 30-50$ from my paycheck but this time they took 244$ wtf.. Please let me know

Usually. I get 20% taken from my paycheck. It only seemed bigger when I got paid more. You are most likely claiming 0 exceptions and most likely, you will get a refund since you have to file separate from your parents.

Get two pay stubs and add up how much they took for each thing ( federal, state and k think local?). Take that number and divide by your gross income and then * by 100 and that should get the %.

This is how I always know what I'll get paid before even seeing my check.

They take some for taxes, some for social security and some for health care. It ranges anywhere from about 36 percent to 50 percent, depending on your income and your tax deduction choices. "So much" is just the way it is.

Look at your pay stub and compare it to a prior one and see what's different. Or ask your payroll department to explain.

Read the check stub. It should tell you what every deduction was for.
