Hello there! I have just stumbled across an Ebayer selling that perfect gift for somebody's birthday, but, the only problem is that the auction ends in another 4 days 8 hours, with the person's birthday only 5 days away being very skeptical on delivery time!

I don't want to seem rude in any way or cause any negativity by doing so, but, would you find it wrong to message the Ebayer to negotiate a price for the item and end the auction early?

I have the greatest respect for EBay and its users and in no way want to go against any terms and conditions, or startle the seller!

Many thanks for any answers provided!

Trent: Thank you very much for being considerate and respectful. You may ask the seller if s/he is willing to add a Buy It Now option to their auction. Keep in mind that eBay REQUIRES the Buy It Now price to be at least 30% higher than the opening bid. So only ask if you're willing to pay at least 30% more than the opening bid to get the item.

I would try to find out and search to see if I could get a similar item else where i.e. from another seller\auction on eBay or from somewhere elsewhere.

If it is a used \ second-hand item and the only one available in the world then another one may be hard to come by.

The auction should be allowed to and should run its full course (unless the auction ad states that the item is advertised elsewhere as if that is the case then it can be sold elsewhere and the eBay auction ends).

I'd asker the seller could it be guaranteed that if you won the auction that they could assure and guarantee delivery in time (you may need to offer you pay extra for fast delivery. I'm not sure if you can ask the seller what you are thinking. Its a pity that there is not a 'buy it now' option.

!:
Provided the item has no bids, send a message via ebay and ask if the seller would consider adding a 'buy it now' price. Do NOT try to do a deal outside ebay – you have no protection if you do.
Jake:
They may not be able to alter the terms of a auction midway through it?

Sellers can have specified a Buy Now price, if that could be added, meeting that price would halt the auction.

Zee:
Talk to the seller and see if they're willing to set a Buy It Now price. If they set one up on EBay, and you click on it and process the payment, the auction is ended automatically.
Biff:
your birthday needs have nothing to do with them and they are going to want to get as much as they can. even if it ended today, you might not receive in time
Bob:
that is not legal
